The Waves are Coming!

If surfing is for you, then you should consider visiting Half Moon Bay. This coastal town is home to many wonderful and beautiful beaches that offer waves perfect for surfing. With a great community of surfers coming together most mornings before work, talking and enjoying these waves together before they pack up, get dressed and head out to work. However, it is not the small beaches that are the most impressive in this community.

In 2011 and 2012, Half Moon Bay welcomed the world famous Gerard Butler as he and a film crew ran up and down the coast to film the movie Chasing Mavericks.

The movie tells the true story of a Santa Cruz man, Jay Moriarity, who is trying to find the legendary waves that were rumored to be hundreds of feet high. And, as those of us on the coast know, those legends are true and each year, hundreds of people a year flock to see the enormous waves. Surfers have come to test their skills on these massive waves during the Maverick's Invitational Surf Competition.

Friday October 25, marked the annual Opening Ceremony to kick off this new competition season. The ceremony is complete with the official Opening and a paddle-out with both the competitors and fans can paddle out to share the experience of the powerful ocean and to share the joy that this area that warmly embraces big wave surfing.
